Don't Quit
Although I have read and even quoted this scripture, many times, today it seems more poignant. Whenever I read a scripture that specifically touches my heart, I ask myself the question, “What do I need to learn from this?”
Do you ever feel like all you do is WORK? Some of you know that Danielle, our middle
daughter, is getting ready to deliver her second child and has really struggled with this
pregnancy. Being the wonderful mother that I am, I offered to bring home Shiloh and keep him
until she is home from the hospital with Baby Jase. Needless to say, that has added lots of
WORK to my life, which I am glad to do.
Living in a home with 7 people adds WORK to my life too. I have to keep the house
clean, groceries available, meals planned, laundry done, and life in a simple order. That is not
necessarily for everyone else but also to help me feel I have some control and order in my life.
I am not alone in this. All of us face the same dilemma but maybe in different ways.
There is always something to do, some task to complete, something that begs our attention.
Right now the thing that begs most of my attention is a beautiful 18 month old grandson. That
is my important thing.
BUT so many things are piling up, Covid-19 has upset my life (and yours) causing me to
have to clean more, disinfect more, be more conscious of where I am and if I am wearing a
mask, and there are things that need to be completed before they get out of hand. I can’t
seem to get ahead on my task list. As I was reading my devotions this morning, part of a
scripture jumped off the page at me and I wanted to share it and What the Lord spoke to me
heart:
Rev 2:2 says this, “I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience…
I began to think about all I have to do, all I want to do, and all that is begging my attention and
the Lord reminded me that he knows my WORKS! He knows my task list and that I am tired. My
neck and shoulders ache from carrying around a 35 pound toddler. God knows my labor and
my patience or lack thereof. The Word goes on to say in subsequent verses over and over again
that God knows our works.
Rev 2:9 says this, “I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art
rich) ..” (He knows my financial state)
Rev 2:13 says,” I know thy works, and where thou dwellest…” (He knows where I live)
Rev 2:19, “I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience,
and thy works…” (He knows what I am doing for the kingdom and knows about my walk of
faith)
Rev 3:1 says, “I know thy works, that thou hast a name…” (He knows my name and my
reputation)
While I am aware that these scriptures are all pointed toward the churches of Revelation, they
are also pointed to me today. No matter where I am in my big scheme of things, God knows
where I am and He knows my WORKS, my task list. He also knows if I am doing all that I do as if
I am doing it for Him. So, I ask myself today, am I doing it all as unto the Lord? OR am I
accomplishing what I need to do, the bare minimum, grumping and grouching my way through
the day?
1 Corinthians 3:12-13 says, “ But if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver,
precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will be clearly shown for what
it is; for the day of judgment will disclose it, because it is to be revealed with fire,
and the fire will test the quality and character and worth of each person’s work.”
Whatever you are doing today, remember that according to the Word, God knows our WORKS
but he also knows our motivations behind our WORKS. I would hate to have all I have done
burned up as wood, hay, or stubble. I’d much rather it be tried in the fire and come out as pure
gold. As you are going about your day today, keep telling yourself that you are making gold as
your heavenly Father observes your WORKS!
